About Dignity, Value, and Worth Therapy

Philosophy

  1. The Philosophy of DVW Therapy is the focus on Dignity, Value, and Worth of every person. We believe that at the moment of conception and continuing on until the end of life, every human has an inherent Dignity, Value, and Worth.
  2. We have Dignity, the right to be respected. An unborn and a  new born baby, in most cases, is cared for by the mother. After birth, that baby is typically placed in the arms of the mother, it is fed, it is cleansed, and wrapped in a warm blanket.
  3. We have Value. The value of a new born baby should be recognized. Value is seen in the characteristics which make other people value us. Even a new born can make us smile and laugh. We see them and the little things they do and we do smile and we do laugh. As we grow our value becomes more. We may be kind, caring, empathetic, or a good listener. We may have humor, helpfulness, or other skills which people value in us. We all have value in one way or another.
  4. We have Worth, we are not trash to be thrown away. Inherent Worth is not the worth as seen by the world. The world sees us as having worth if we have an education, a good job, the right car, the bigger house, the perfect vacations, etc. Our Inherent worth is seen as the fact we are human and we are alive. We recognize our worth as a person when other people show us our worth. When someone takes time to talk with you, do something for you, or give you something; we recognize they do these things because we have worth. A new born baby is worth the time to care for it. A new born baby is worth the money spent to feed it, clothe it, shelter it, and provide for all its needs and comfort.
  5. Our Philosophy is that all humans are given these characteristics. They are not dependent on what other's think about us. When a person is abused or abuses themselves, or when a person has experienced trauma, they may feel they do not have Dignity, Value, and Worth. We believe they still do possess those characteristics, they just don't see them due to their circumstances. Unfortunately, not all people will recognize or treat us as we should be treated.
  6. Our goal with this philosophy is to help you find and recognize your Dignity, Value, and Worth. We see this in every client. It is the philosophy behind all our treatment.
