Troy's story was one of abuse and pain. From his experiences as a child, he survived an attempt to end his life. He learned to overcome his suffering and to find healing. He became a Christian at the age of twelve, two weeks after his failed attempt. This is the pivotal moment in his life which formed him to become the therapist he is today.
At the age of fourteen, he was living with his father when he came to the realization of his humanity. He had moved from the abuse of his mother to live with his father. Two weeks after turning fourteen he wrote his mother a letter and told her four things. 1. All the things she did to hurt him. 2. Why he thought she did what she did to hurt him. 3. He forgave her for her hurting him. 4. He set boundaries that would stop her from ever hurting him again. The moment he mailed this letter, he felt the best he had felt since the age of five, before the first abuse took place. He asked himself what he got back from his mother; what did she take from him that he finally got back? The answer became his life long philosophy. She did not respect him, did not value him, and thought he was worthless.
As Troy grew and developed, his thinking changed to form the philosophy that the abuse of his mother did not take those things from him. He changed the word, "Respect" to "Dignity." He has taught this concept to people throughout his life. He has seen lives changed as people realize they have Dignity, Value, and Worth.
Being a therapist is his passion and his calling. He continues to work for Mind 24-7 and working in his private practice part time.
